Among many other things Jana is a proxy server providing Internet access via a single modem, ISDN or DSL connection for any or a group of LAN users. Jana is installed on the machine that has the modem, ISDN or DSL connection which then acts as server. On the part of the clients no additional software is needed. Jana is also a mail server. It manages mail to and from the Internet for individual users as well as internal mail traffic between users. Each user can have his own Internet mail account with his own provider. An HTTP server is included. It can be used for local testing of webpages or to build an Intranet. Jana supports Perl/CGI and PHP3 / 4 scri`pting. Additional functions are an FTP server, DNS forwarder that can act as a DNS server for the LAN and gateways for FTP, Telnet. News and user defined gateways.
